Arvest Cookout, Lunch Delivery Supports Local Food Bank

Arvest Bank associates recently took pre-orders for boxed lunches they cooked, packed and delivered to employees of local businesses, all in an effort to raise money for the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas.

Boxed lunches included a hamburger or hot dog, chips, cookie and a drink. Proceeds from the fundraiser will provide 7,680 meals for the food bank.

“This was a great event to serve our community in two ways; our teams had fun catering to local businesses and we’re helping keep a continuous supply of food on the shelves of the food bank for weeks to come,” said Tiffany Watkins, assistant vice president and marketing director for Arvest Bank in North Central Arkansas. “We are just getting started in our efforts to help reduce food insecurity so there’s still time for anyone who is interested in helping to donate.”

Sponsors of the cookout included Allens Grocery Deli Meats Produce, Blacksheep Smokehouse and Grill, Harps, Marion County Paving, Sonic, Subway and White Oak Station.

The cookout and lunch delivery fundraiser was part of Arvest Bank’s annual 1 Million Meals campaign that challenges bank associates, customers and community members to participate in fundraising efforts and nonperishable food drives to fight hunger in the more than 120 communities the bank serves. Every donation supports the bank’s local food partner.

Arvest Bank Adds Murphy and Rockefeller Jr. to Board of Directors

Arvest Bank is pleased to announce Dr. Bruce Murphy and Winthrop (Win) Rockefeller Jr. have joined its local board of directors in central Arkansas.

Murphy is the CEO of Arkansas Heart Hospital. In addition to training cardiologists from across the United States and the world on advanced interventional techniques, Murphy is a regular speaker on a variety of topics at both national and international conferences. He lives in Little Rock.

Rockefeller is the principle at Theseus Holdings LLC. He and his wife, Natalie, have two sons and live in Little Rock. Among other civic endeavors, Rockefeller is a board member for the Humane Society of Pulaski County, Easterseals, and the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.

“We are thrilled to add Bruce and Win to our board,” said Jim Cargill, Arvest president for central Arkansas. “Both men have expertise that will be invaluable to us here at Arvest. Additionally, they also are big and active parts of the community here in central Arkansas. There is no doubt they will be strong parts of our team.”

“Egged” Yards Provide 3,000 Meals in Arvest Bank Campaign

Arvest Bank associates in Harrison lent the Easter Bunny a hand last weekend by decorating homeowners’ yards with colorful, surprise-filled Easter Eggs for children to discover Easter morning.   

The project called “Egg My Yard” collected enough donations to provide 3,000 meals to Ozark Share and Care, a local emergency services program that houses a food pantry and provides other necessary items.  

The event was a fundraiser for Arvest Bank’s annual 1 Million Meals campaign that collects nonperishable food items and monetary donations to reduce food insecurity in communities.  

“This is a great start to our annual campaign and we hope to keep the momentum going during the next two months,” said Scott Tennyson, market president of Arvest Bank in Harrison. “Our associates enjoy getting creative in their fundraising efforts, so we hope our friends and neighbors across the community will take part in these efforts to reduce food insecurity for the months to come.”  

Harrison residents had three decorating and price options ranging from an “egged yard” that included 35 eggs for $30, 55 eggs for $40 or 75 eggs for $50.  

Arvest Bank’s two-month 1 Million Meals campaign, that is in its eighth year, challenges Arvest associates, customers and the general public to donate nonperishable food items or monetary contributions at any Arvest Bank location across the four-state footprint of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas the bank serves. The goal of the initiative is to collect the equivalent of one million meals that will be donated to local food pantries and other hunger relief organizations or programs. In Harrison, Arvest Bank has partnered with Ozark Share and Care that will receive all of the donations made in the community.  

Since Arvest Bank began the 1 Million Meals campaign in 2011, the Harrison community has collected 181,830 meals for local food partners.

El Chico to Hold Give Back Night

El Chico restaurant in Mountain Home is holding a give back night to help reduce food insecurity in the community. On Tuesday, April 24 from 5-9p.m., El Chico will donate 10 percent of the total meal sales that are purchased to Arvest Bank’s Feed the Pack initiative. 

Feed the Pack is a one-day donation drive in the communities of Mountain Home, Gassville, Flippin and Yellville that raises money for the Food Back of North Central Arkansas’ backpack program, as well as other local backpack programs from other hunger relief organizations in the area. Backpack programs provide supplemental snacks for children on weekends and holidays, times when they don’t have access to school meal programs and face food insecurity at home.

Arvest Bank created Feed the Pack Day in 2016 and has collected $35,000 during the past two fundraising drives, equating to 175,000 meals for local children who are supported by backpack programs.

“This is a great opportunity for our community to have dinner together and support a very important cause at the same time,” said Sally Gilbert, market president of Arvest Bank in Mountain Home. “Any of us could face food insecurity, at any time, so I hope we can come together to support the hundreds of children who benefit from these programs, and that we keep donations top of mind throughout the year.”

In order for 10 percent of the meal ticket to be contributed to the Feed the Pack initiative, customers must present a voucher from Arvest Bank. Vouchers may be picked up at any Arvest Bank location in Mountain Home. El Chico is located at 45 Charles Blackburn Drive in Mountain Home.

Feed the Pack Day is one of several grassroots projects that is held in support of Arvest Bank’s 8th Annual 1 Million Meals campaign that collects nonperishable food items and monetary donations in support of hunger relief efforts across the four-state territory Arvest serves. All donations made in Mountain Home remain local to support the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas’ backpack program and the various hunger relief organizations it supports through other backpack programs.

Mountain Home residents can participate in 1 Million Meals by dropping off nonperishable food items or monetary donations at any Arvest Bank branch or by calling (866) 952-9523. Arvest Bank Community Garden: Planting Urban Roots

Tucked next to the Arvest Bank on Blue Ridge Blvd in Kansas City, Mo. is a local community garden where Arvest associates work together to create community involvement and empowerment. This urban oasis can be a sigh of relief from the hustle and bustle of everyday life – for both the green thumbed volunteers who till the soil and those who reap the harvest.

The seed for these twelve raised beds was planted in 2014 when we recognized a need for proper access to nutrition and food in the community. Residents in the area have the opportunity to rent a bed, giving access to fresh fruit and vegetables in a community with little green space for growing.

With each season, Arvest is able to harvest an abundant amount of sweet potatoes and tomatoes of which is donated to Raytown Emergency Assistance Program (REAP). Their emergency food pantry strives to provide each family enough food to last two to three weeks. Arvest is proud to partner with REAP to help them meet this need.

Our volunteers have experienced many successful harvest seasons and anticipate this year being no different. This dedicated team of Arvest associates will soon begin preparing for the upcoming growing season.
